At Taylor Swift’s Tampa concerts, no light

Taylor Swift fans are famous for going big on their costumes, with album-themed designs and bedazzled dresses. But lights will be a no-no at her three shows at Tampa's Raymond James Stadium April 13-15.

There are rabidly followed TikTok hashtags like #erastouroutfits, dedicated entirely to tour outfits. One of the more popular accessories at past concerts were signs or skirts that lit up. And Ray Jay has allowed that before.

But guidelines released this week by the Tampa Sports Authority, which manages the stadium, say firmly: "No costumes or signs with battery packs will be permitted."

As the official Twitter account of the Taylor Swift Eras Tour has warned, "Lights of any kind attached to costumes, outfits, or signs will not be permitted" at any of the tour stops.

Another tour demand is a ban on large electronics such as digital readers, iPads or laptops in the Tay-Tay audience.

It's not unusual. Back in 2018, the Irish press chuckled at what they called "daft bans" on the Swift tour that included light sabres, glow sticks, Chinese sky lanterns, crash helmets and garden furniture.

But another ban at the Tampa tour stop is just good manners: "No clothing, costume or personal effects that may impede the view of those around you will be permitted."

Despite these rules, the Swifties are already hard at work on their costumes. They have homemade painted and bedazzled jackets, freshly sewn sequin dresses and intricate and detailed floral designs.
